Automated Mining Extractors are found on planetary surfaces and can be destroyed by weapons fire. When destroyed, each extractor will release a single 1 ton mineral fragment that can be picked up with a cargo scoop. The mineral type of the fragment determines which 1 ton commodity cargo canister is deposited into your cargo rack.
Multiple Automated Mining Extractors are found at each "mining site", and are typically guarded by defense turrets and skimmers. The "mining site" typically has some small towers providing illumination and have the possibility of containing small buildings at the site.
The Automated Mining Extractors appear as three small cargo canisters atop a tripod which is emitting a mining laser from its base. When an Automated Mining Extractor is scanned with the Data Link Scanner it will display an message telling its contents
