With the release of Odyssey, there's been a lot of...hiccups. While I have thoughts regarding the release schedule of the expansion, that is not why I'm writing here today. No, today I'm going to explain a little bit about my goals for experiencing this expansion.
I had access to the Alpha, but I'd only joined in Phase 1 when you couldn't fly your own ships. I'd never had the chance to try the Dominator and Artemis suits until after the expansion dropped.
While combat is easy to get a grip on, exobiology was something different. I figured out the difficult way that there are many aspects to exobiology and gene sampling. It's more complex than it seems on the surface.
Sure, you DSS, get to the surface, and scan life...but I started all wrong.
Adaris187 explains the myth of a mile wide and an inch deep. Some people in the community endlessly perpetuate the idea that Elite Dangerous is a shallow experience that hasn't changed at all since its release. They lament Odyssey's coming with phrases like, "Why couldn't they make space gameplay deeper first before adding this FPS nobody wants?" Worse of all is that old horse, the phrase "a mile wide and an inch deep," that's mentioned in the space sim and open world game community. Some people accept the misconception that "Elite Dangerous is shallow" as a fundamental truth without ever questioning or looking at the current version.
So, I was out looking for some "impossible to find" Yttrium and lo and behold I come across this (EDIT: Nav Beacon, not satellite):
Any Brazilians here?
I'd like to propose a Brazilian translation to the Elite:Dangerous wiki. We are a small but proud community, and we have localization in game to our language.
It would be extremely beneficial to our growing player base if we had support of the biggest E:D wiki on the internet, so I propose that any and all people interested in that idea, please chime in.
Thanks for the attention!
some of the so called airless world are anything but to me.some do seem to have a very thin atmosphere,so if atmospheric landings are to happen its possible they will start to be phased in from least pressure to highest.makes sense to me at least
I'm a warrior. I got ninjitsu, bikenjutsu, skateboarding and even some command scores. One day I'll get a snake tattooed on me. But only after I am fully muscular. I've dedicated a good few years on wiki researching snakes and so to focus on my battle-ship I understand I am the Monsignifer Lancehead Viper.
I like Rambo and Tears of the Sun. Mercenary snakes, though. Sir Bronn of the Blackwaters Arizona Black Rattlesnake, Snake Pliskins Snouted Cobra, Ryan Reynolds Jameson's Mamba, Storm Shadows Coastal Taipan, Adrien Brody's Sharp-Nosed Viper in Predators. Daniel Craigs Western Diamondback Rattlesnake, Jean Claude Van Dammes Eyelash Pit Viper, I also like Brendan Fraser & Dolph Lundgren. I can see Bushmaster, Russell's Viper, Black-tailed…

My third exploration mission started near Lave, headed above galactic plane to Spica, then proceeded eastwards, while planning my course. So far in my journey, I have found several POI's on the surface on planets, and rescued some escape pods.
As my next mission objective, I chose the Vela Pulsar, which is around a 1000 ly away from my position above the galactic plane. That course would take me way below the plane (towards NGQ4), but seeing my first pulsar should be worth it. So I scooped some fuel for the long journey, and proceeded with my jump.
The trip went pretty easily, but closer I got to my destination, less there were scoopable stars, most being brown dwa…
Despite backing ED in the Kickstarter in 2013/14, I've always struggled to be able to able to afford the kit to run the game on. My so-called gaming laptop when the Alpha released, only managed a frame rate of between 10-20 fps in Supercruise, and dropped under 10 fps when docking.
After that laptop died, I bought my son's 2012 iMac, which was better, but was below minimum specs even for the Mac version. I managed to play the game at more acceptable speeds at a reduced resolution for a few months. I stopped though as it was frustrating running a game capable of being run in HD or even UHD, in a lot lower resolution, especially as that Mac had a desktop 2k resolution .
All this changed when my wife got me a PC for Christmas. It's one that pla…
So there is this pretty cool game called Elite Dangerous which is a space sim. Not like EVE Online or Freelancer just for clarification this is more like Microsoft Flight Sim in Space with guns.
HOWEVER it is rather entrancing. In a strange way.
If you are just beginning to play then go check out this artical, and watch this video:
So I have taken the time to create a little list of things I will update now and then with either things that need to be fixed or things I think should be added.
- Make it so that the ships acceleration automatically is set to zero when we initiate a hyperspace jump
- When mission stacking planetary missions, please decide on whether all the locations for scanning will be in one place or will only spawn once we l…

Frontier offers to take part on an upcoming Community Goal regarding the Colonia region and establishing the new '2nd bubble'. Frontier set up a page on which Commanders can sign up for creating a new minor faction which is going to race up in Community Gaols to come like recent Dangerous Games, where Juri Grom from EG-Pilots won and became the 11th super power there after.
So get on the Frontier Application page(docs.google.com) to name a not yet excisting minor faction, your ingame Commanders tag and your email address!

I was curious about the new events coming into ships radio coms
as sort of mission offers. while some are pretty annoying like
altering missions destinations which i hate most to weird offers to
complete missions on specific time to get a bonus (mostly
unrealitic time spans).
there are also Tip Off's:
they work as a destination to explore on surface for horizon owners. in coms there is a detailed information about the destination system, planet boday and coords on planet.
im collecting gathered locations of mine as well as any i can find on steam, reddit and less likely Frontier forums.
Discussion for this can be found on steam:
The video is unlisted and I dunno if I should make a wiki page just for it, so I'll leave it here for the moment
O-type star? Check.
Binary planet system within a fuel scooping zone of the said star? Check.
A planet you can land on with a crater 70km deep which is a part of the said binary system? Check.
Bring sunglasses and maybe a spare SRV.
Time for yet another flurry of activity as pilots realise they need to finish their weekly Powerplay activities. I am a good 200 points behind just holding onto rank 3, let alone approaching rank 4. I also need to use my nominations to help make sure the right systems get developed.
When did this become a job?
Apparently, as of this very blog post, I have now edited this wiki every day for 60 days. I am not sure if that makes me dedicated or just a little obsessive, but posting this as my first edit of day 60 (and therefore the action which earns the achievement) seemed amusing to me.
Having a Type-6 Transporter makes PowerPlay easier, but even maintaining my current rank requires four full trips. To reach rank 4, I need another eight on top of that. Sadly, my funds are a little low. My wages for the last cycle (when I was rank 2) were only 500,000 CR, so I can't even fast-track many loads of materials.
Maybe I should have waited until I was a little more well-off before starting power-play, but I needed something to draw me back in.
Had way too many of those.
This morning, I achieved rank 3 with Aisling Duval.
Wait... That sounds dirty...
In service to Her Royal Highness, Princess Aisling Duval, I have delivered certain pamphlets and other materials to systems which may benefit from her influence. For my work here, I have been recognised as a supporter of some note.
Can I make rank 4 by next week? I hope so. 5-Million a week sounds attractive...
So I made three planetary landings spent many hours driving around and scooped up a load of materials. I collected enough basic materials to be supplied with any kind of basic ammunition refill, SRV refuel and repair, one standard FSD boost and a few cargo containers.
The time I had taken to find just one standard FSD boost was so high (at least six hours) it just wasn't worth looking for it.
So I thought about what the developers said about realism.
On the three planets that I had visited, all of which were High Metal content worlds I had been bombing around on relatively good terrain.
The Forth Landing.
I hit Orbital Cruise and looked for the biggest crater I could see in OC and headed straight to it. My thinking was; "wher…
Bam, most of the guns in Elite. All of these are uploaded on the wikia in 4k, named:
wpn_c%class%_%type%.png (e.g. wpn_c3_plasma.png)
Classes go from 1 to 4, types are as follows:
- multi (-cannon)
- plasma (accelerator)
- laser (burst and pulse use the same model)
- rail (gun)
- frag (mentation cannon)
- mine (launcher)
- mining (laser)
I might've missed some in here, feel free to tell me which ones.
Powerplay has given me a purpose, it seems. I now look at Elite and see something I can do, immediate goals to achieve. I like the open-ended nature of Elite, but the grind was getting me down.
Ferrying goods for fortification meant collecting my Cobra and I did notice that after weeks in an Eagle, that was painful. The Yaw speed on a Cobra is almost non-existent, even its roll and pitch are dire, but I escaped three interdictions just by submitting and then hitting afterburners. It can't turn, but it can't half flee...
And now I have my first Type-6 Transporter. One flight was all it took to convince me of a docking computer's value...
In the CQC Championship, as you rank up you unlock more loadouts and more modules for those loadouts. I was rank 9 or so when I started revamping the CQC Loadout pages. Annoyingly, you can't see the rank required for things you've already unlocked.
If someone who hasn't yet ranked up too far could submit the missing details, either as a comment on this blog post (with screenshots if you don't want to type it out) or by editing the appropriate articles, that would be very helpful.
For the Loadouts overview we are currently lacking what rank the first Sidewinder, Eagle, and Imperial Fighter loadouts are unlocked at. This can be seen on the Ship Select screen (from the main menu click Start → CQC Championship → Ship Select.)
Viewing modules within…
When I started to play Elite, I was hooked. I mean, I shut the curtains and sat there in the dark with Elite on my big TV. I was about as immersed as I could get without fixing my surround-sound (a project for later) and maybe investing in a HOTAS system. I was Nikolai Albinus, newbie pilot and wannabe pirate-hunter. I traded up to a Cobra, made some money, invested it in a fully-upgraded Eagle, then... I don't know, I think the story ended.
Some time around when Horizons hit, the illusion kind of collapsed and I found myself faced with a Skinner box situation. I was no longer a space-fighter pilot, I was a player repeating a task so that I could earn some more Imperial approval, some more combat rank, a little more virtual money.
All I can …
There's a Kotaku article doing the rounds right now about Elite - The Problem And Pleasure With Elite Dangerous Is That It's Lonely - and I think they hit the nail on the head. Sometimes, I feel like I am setting out on a grand adventure with just my trusty ship and my wits; sometimes, when I'm sitting at a station to top up my fuel and check for missions, it feels like some kind of motorway service station on the M1 as I drive from some grey part of London to some Grey part of... I don't know, Manchester maybe.
Half the time, I'm in Solo anyway. I am not the most social of pilots and circling the entrance of a Coriolis station waiting for another player to leave so I can have their landing pad fills me with as much joy as filling in my tax…
We took our daughter to see Star Wars: The Force Awakens today and caught the Elite: Dangerous trailer. She was bored by the adverts, even by most of the trailers, but when she saw Elite ships...
I was excited too. I was so worked up about Star Wars, then Elite came on and I couldn't help sharing her enthusiasm. It's an odd thing, but it made me smile...
After a couple of days of pretending to be sociable, I can really appreciate the charms of being alone in deep space...
Hope everyone else made it through xmas while remaining no less sane than they started...
Today marks the 30th day of playing Elite Dangerous. Amusingly, it was an early xmas present bought one month early to the day. I look back and I am kind of glad it was early. Every time I get a game for xmas, I find myself unable to play in the ensuing week of chaos where we have to visit family and enjoy the holidays.
It'll be a few days before I am back on my gaming PC, so Merry Christmas to you all and stay safe.
Hey everyone. I just got my federal corvette and im wondering if anyone has any loadouts they would like to share. right now im using 2 huge PAC, 1 large turreted Pulse laser, 2 medium beam turret lasers, and 2 small gimballed multicannons. I was wondering if anyone has has more success with other weapons. please let me know your thoughts.
Tomorrow, I need to install Elite on my laptop. I'll be spending the 25th at my brother's with two other pilots, so maybe we can wing up and enjoy some alcohol-fuelled adventures. What better way to celebrate the winter solstice than consigning pirates to the cold dark embrace of vacuum...?
Junga 1 is a marvellous planet indeed. With two huge craters and a perfect natural racetrack for SRVs on the other side, less than 10 lightseconds from the star and with a lot of resources to mine it seems like a perfect planet to screw around on. Untill you find yourself buried 11 clicks under the ground, that is.
It was only this morning that I managed to put my finger on why I have only been playing in short bursts recently. I'd be sitting down to play and then I'd quit after a half-hour or less. Sometimes, I was getting as far as checking the bulletin board and then logging back out.
Part of the issue is that I used to play with my dad, the man who introduced me to Elite back in the days of the BBC B. Flying in a wing is somehow more exciting than flying alone. My brother was a backer, so he'd been playing since launch, while I only started last month. I think he got a little bored before I even got going and so we have never played at the same time.
The other issue is that the latest patch added new missions and I think they have thinned out the m…
It's been two days since Elite updated and after a tense day off where I was upset that I didn't get to play (though I did manage to finish watching Jessica Jones on Netflix, so the day was not a complete bust) I have still not got around to spending more than five minutes logged in at a time. What is wrong with me?
Upcoming plans include getting some practice with Flight Assist turned off and getting the next Imperial Navy rank so I can buy a Imperial Courier. Just need to log in at some point...
Does any one know where to buy a Fer-De-Lance at a discount now that horizons has dropped. I just checked all of the systems listen on its page that offered it for a discount and not one of them sold it.
Why can my imperial cutter hold 720 TONS of cargo but only 90 rounds of ammunition for a Fragment cannon. Just saying seems a bit stupid. particularly since most actual military aircraft even in the 1950s can hold tens of thousands of rounds and they sure as hell dont have 720 tons of space to store extra ammunition. #fixyourshit.
The cutter is ofically the worst combat ship i have ever flown that wasnt a type class hauler. Though it does hold a LOT of cargo and by god is it fast for its size. I made 2.1 million in one trade run without any missions. it was simply buy comodity from location A and sell to location B took about 10 minutes and i made 2 million. Still im disapointed. I thought it would be a bit better at combat. and i figured it would have a hangar or i could get a hangar for fighters but i guess thats comoing later?
Right now, the servers are down while the new updates are installed. The estimates say it will be another 5 and a half hours at best before they come back up. I think we will see a lot of edits to the wiki in the next few hours...
Is it just me or is every one else going crazy waiting for horizons to drop? I spent most of this week grinding out reputation with the empire just so i could buy a Cutter the moment horizons goes live.
