Servers Down
Right now, the servers are down while the new updates are installed. The estimates say it will be another 5 and a half hours at best before they come back up. I think we will see a lot of edits to the wiki in the next few hours...
Who else cant wait for Horizons?
Is it just me or is every one else going crazy waiting for horizons to drop? I spent most of this week grinding out reputation with the empire just so i could buy a Cutter the moment horizons goes live.
Power Play?
The more I look at Powerplay, the more I wonder about getting back into it. I did once pledge myself to a Power, but I was in a sidewinder at the time and trapped in a cluster of unfriendly systems; that's not something I wish to repeat.
Today, I think I will work on Imperial faction some more and work my way toward the blue systems.
Time Limits
You know what I find a bit of a mixed bag? Time limits on contracts...
When someone gives me 36 minutes to deliver urgent data, I can do that. I drop everything and I rush over, maybe picking up some trade goods if I know a good trade. I know that this contract is urgent, I know I cannot do anything else at the same time. I know where I stand and I know I can do it quickly.
When I have a week to kill 15 pirates in a nearby system, I'll take that mission even if I just sit on it. It's something to do when I am in the area. I know I have time and even a day away from the PC is not going to be a major issue. These long-term ones all seem to be combat, so it's fairly easy to park myself at a waypoint or hunt Unidentified Signal Sources. I know I…
A Serf At Last
Faction is hard. Continually completing missions for the Empire finally paid off and I am now a serf in the Imperial Navy. It's not a very prestigious title and comes with no great rewards, but it's one step up the ladder and one rank from being able to buy an Imperial Courier. Is it worth buying? Will I buy it just because I can?
Also, despite grinding Empire faction, I seem to have reached the threshold for Federal Navy to take an interest. They want me as a recruit. It might be nice to visit Sol, but the Federation ships don't do it for me...
Commander's Log, Star-Date... today...
Having played for a fortnight, I suppose it's time I looked at some of the tools. I had a basic spreadsheet where I stored data for commodities when I started, but I stopped using it about the time I encountered rare commodities (much more predictable and much more profitable when you only have a small ship) and never went back.
Recently, I have been bounty-hunting in my Eagle Mk. II and that's about as profitable as rare trading in my Cobra Mk. III, but a lot more fun. Maybe I will upgrade to a better trader and do some hauling later, but I am still having so much fun killing bigger ships in my tiny fighter. I am travelling, grinding Imperial faction and generally seeing what the bulletin boards around Tangaroa/Sovica have to offer.
These p…

Rating 5 influence bonuses
Does any one know if the rating 5 influance bonuses from Falicia Winters and Aisling Duval apply to faction reputation with the Federation / Empire or does it only apply to minor factions?
Quick info on Infoboxes
Figured out that the Lua Infoboxbuilder that Wikia offers actually has a value type called "split". Figured it out looking through the code of Infoboxbuilder and saw it, I wouldn't have found it anywhere else as it's not mentioned that much anywhere else nor is it on the documentation.
I put up an example on User:SpyTec/Template:Infoboxbuilder Split. More or less, it allows us to have two colums, where the first row is the labels rather than first column. The other rows below it are the values. It should be able to handle Methods as well for custom modules, but not yet tested.
With this we can probably produce some interesting infoboxes, will experiment more with Lua and see if we can get some custom infobox builder to collapse whole section…
Am i the only one?
Am i the only one who likes to put on the top gun theme song when ever i dock/ undock??

nerdy as hell
Little change to the ship infobox
Basically I suggest changing the shipinfobox template so the max cargo capacity would consist of two numbers: maximum total and maximum with a smallest possible shield generator. Kinda like the Python page has right now, but with a C3 shield gen.
I could do that myself (probably) but I wanted to run it past you guys first.
Created a guide to farming merits
Hello everyone, I'm new to the wiki and i was a bit frustrated about the lack of information on how players were supposed to farm merits. In an effort to make the wiki more friendly to new players i have spent much of my time over the last two days creating a guide on merits and how to obtain them. Please go give it a look and let me know if i left anything out. Thanks ^.^

Fear this mighty pirate
I have not had much chance to play today, so I'll just share an amusing image from yesterday.
Sovica is so clean and shiny
I've been playing for a week and I have racked up quite a few starport landings, but today came as a surprise. After a week of grey, dimly-lit stations with a very utilitarian feel, I docked at Sovica in the Tangaroa system to see palm trees and parks, lots of white and red. This is how I always expected the Empire to look (it's an Imperial-aligned station) and it did not disappoint.
I know it's just a minor reskin of a typical Orbis station, but it made me happy to see it.
Pirates in Federal Gunships?
Well that was a surprise. Just lost about 200k in bounties and 50k for my ship because there are apparently NPC pirates flying Federal Gunships with turrets now...
I've been caught out by Anacondas and the occasional well-flown Cobra, but that Federal Gunship was a new (and unwanted) one on me. He followed me right up to the station, spouting threats, so I logged out.
Imperial Agents
I am now an Outsider with the Empire, even if it took a tiny bit of work. Suddenly, running courier missions, I went from neutral to friendly with one of the stations (it now lights up a delightful green instead of the previous orange) and got four different advancement missions offered to me.
Now, as a loyal subject of the Empire, maybe I should upgrade my wardrobe to suit my newfound status.
Nikolai Albinus, Bounty Hunter
I've been having a bit of a mixed experience killing pirates and other fugitives today.
On the one hand, the Eagle is a great ship for combat. With all of the upgrades I have installed, I have only had one close call and that was against a trio of (NPC) Vipers; I got one, but had to run before I could finish the second. It's been fun, mostly.
The issue is that I am really not gaining ranks too fast. I've reached Merchant rank and even my explorer is Mostly Aimless + 85%, but Combat is really taking a lot of kills to rank up. I've also noticed that while the Eagle is good against Cobras, there are too many pirates in Eagles who skip out of my gunsights if I am not careful.
Still, I will keep trying...
Lessons learned trading rare commodities
I have been trading between the systems near Wolf 1301 and the ones near Lave for a couple of days and I have picked up a few things.
- There are some very hot stars you end up warping in next to
- I need to upgrade my FSD to A-rating if I keep doing this
- Leestian Evil Juice is illicit cargo in a lot of places you will travel through, which can really be an issue if you are not expecting to become an accidental smuggler
- Any route with 30+ jumps gets far more tedious when your jump times go from under ten seconds to over thirty
- Trying to buy a Class 4 FSD is harder than it sounds, especially 4A
- Setting your throttle to 75% seems to help with the overshooting issue
The Eagle
The original Sidewinder we all start with is a fairly versatile ship. The hold is a little small and it's not really a combat ship, but it lets you get started with your trading and fighting as long as you are patient with the first and careful with the second. I traded mine in for a Cobra Mk. III before too long, but there was also one other ship I wanted to take a look at.
The Eagle is, for now, the most manoeuvrable ship in the game. It's hardly a heavy weapons platform, but it does serve as one of the earliest examples of a dedicated fighter. You can pick one up for 44,000 CR, but mine is already valued at about 1-Million CR thanks to the upgrades it has. I had planned to use it as a cheap fighter to practice combat which I would not wo…
Friendship Drive Charging
As I charged my FSD, my daughter (who is seven, about the age I was when I first tried Elite back on the BBC B) asked me what a 'Friendship Drive' is. I corrected her, but now I have started to hear it too.
That's just not fair...
Moving on up
Well, I finally got hold of an Adder this morning. I thought it was an ugly ship the first time I laid eyes on it, but it let me move on to trading rare commodities and that's not nothing. Sadly, it was as much fun to fly as to look at. After all that time in a Sidewinder, I missed being able to look up. The visibility is awful, with struts and panels and a roof in the way; I like to look up when lining up with stations, so it got far harder to dock with the larger stations.
One quick round of rares from Altair and a couple of nearby stations, then on to Lave. It was long and slow, stopping every few systems for fuel, but I made it, earning another 400,000 CR which went on a Cobra Mk. III and a fuel scoop . It's been almost 30 years since I…
Why Not Asleep?
It's after 1am and I'm still comparing the Eagle and the Adder because I am not sure if I want something small and fast to go claim some bounties or just to get started with trading. Finally broke 100k, so I really should upgrade my Sidewinder to something more profitable. I'm also looking at the rare commodities and wondering if it's worth relocating to Lave.
Why am I not just playing?
Also, why am I so bothered that the Adder is not very attractive?
Discussion of ideas and structure for all editors
So as I've not been able to edit the wiki that much lately, been mostly focusing on other things, I've not really had a time to do this properly. But I figured this is as good time as any.
- 1 Structure
- 1.1 FAQ
- 1.2 Front Page
- 2 Ideas
- 2.1 Lore
- 2.2 Ships
- 3 Templates
As of right now, we haven't set out any guidelines on how articles should be structured, nor have we set up any guidelines on what pages should consist of. So I would like to have a discussion with avid editors and visitors at some point on what is good and what is bad, for us to eventually create articles about it. I'd think that we should have this discussion on the forum in a short while, and to which I recommend people to come up with small drafts (just to get a general idea of what it should…
Ship Categorization
NOTE: This is mostly about the text that displays under the ship's profile pic.
So as we all know, ships are divided into several groups on this wiki, and with a new batch coming out in 1.5 I thought some questions should be brought up (and maybe we can make some kind of guideline on this).
So we already have general categorization, which is pretty easy:
- Fighter
- Freighter
- Explorer
- Cruise/Passenger
- Multipurpose
But then additional stuff comes into play, such as size/weight. For expample, the Vulture is marked as a "Heavy Fighter" at the moment, but while having quite a hull mass of 230t (I mean jesus that's like half the Anaconda) it is really agile and compact, which makes the "heavy" part a little bit obsolete.
So the weight part needs some sort o…
Do we really need Purchase Locations in the ED Wiki?
I really don't think we need Purchase Locations throughout the ED Wiki, on Ships and Equipment pages. If something isn't available, what do you do? You find a High Tech system and go there to buy. Or if you have access to the Founders World, where everything is available, you go there.
What do other people think?
Starport or Station
Currently, the term starport is used inconsistently throughout the wiki, but usually as if its definition is:
- Starport: A large station with a Docking Bay. A station which is not an outpost.
However, in Elite Dangerous: Horizons we will be getting surface starports on planets, which are inconsistent with this definition. Should we change the usage of terms throughout the wiki to make starport consistently a more generic term, such as:
- Starport: A structure with Landing Pads, where ships can dock and access various services.
This definition would include large stations with docking bays, outposts, and planetary installations.
An example of what I am talking about is the page Orbis. It opens with the line:
If the wiki's use of "Starport" moved away …
Conflict Zones
Most of the time when I enter CZ's nobody is firing at one another if I wait long enough will somebody eventually fire at somebody?
What order should the Timeline section on character pages be?
While editing character pages, such as Arissa Lavigny-Duval, Georgio Algeria or Jasmina Halsey, I added new entries to their Timelines in the order they were already: the Twitter timeline-style newer at the top. I think it would read better with older at the top, so you can keep reading downward to discover what happened next. However, as a new contributor to this wiki, I didn't want to go through and change them all if others think they should be in the order they are.
Is there a guideline/consensus for what order Timelines should be in?
How do you create a category?
Does anyone know how to create a new category on this wiki? For instance Elite Dangerous: Horizons will intruduce skimmers as an NPC enemy type. There are multiple types of skimmers planned, so they should be in a category, but putting them in ships doesn't seem quite right. Also, the Scarab surface recon vehicle is pilotable by the player but putting it in ships doesn't feel right, maybe a category called pilotable, which would include all things player piloted, which would not simply be a list of all ships because some are not pilotable (such as battlecruisers and interdictors). Any help on how to create stuff like this would be appreciated.
Please note, I do know how to add a page to a category, just not how to create a new category …

Massive set of undo revisions on commodity pages
This is a blog post about me doing over 50 undo revisions on commodity pages. This post is to explain my reasoning if people have an issue with my removing the wikipedia.org links. My reasoning is first, it should not be necessay to have a link to wikipedia that is essentially just looking up the name of each commodity. I can understand links to wikipedia about something specific to Elite:Dangerous, such as its development history, but I do not think that this wiki needs to provide links to wikipedia that are about things that mentioned in Elite: Dangerous but are not part of the games story, history, or gameplay (Example: the commodity item beer does not need a link to a wikipedia article on beer unless that article is about beer in El…
Hello, I need advice on how to add images to this wiki
Hi, I just recently tried adding an image to this wiki using the add media function and could not figure out how to center the image and move it to a different spot than where it appeared. After trying and failing to use the add gallery function to add the image that way, I tried several templates but could not find a simply named one that is just for an image with a caption, and ended up using the infobox album template. After inserting the template and filling out the available infomation, I found I could not move the template box and my attempts to use multiple blank lines to get the next text section under it failed. Can anyone give me advice on what I'm doing wrong or how to add an image, resize it, place it where I want it, and pr…
Day 6
I have learned how to wing up with more than one person. A total of 4 wings all together (received an achievement for it). Anywho, I am in the Wyrd System doing to current Community Challenge that i found on the news. Killing any wanted and getting credits and a rank on a deadline. Once the deadline is up, the more you killed, the bigger the prize. Still haven't upgraded to another ship. Currently at Vonarburg Co-operative looking for wings to join me in some easy bounties. The more i fly, the more I learn, the more un it gets. Also learned how to chat with wings and Lock Navigation onto one of the wings so everyone cruises or drops together. Looking forward to meeting more Comanders out here. Good flights!
Day 5
Finally! I found a couple of CMDRs! Hallelujah! The first one... I Interdicted him only to say hello lol. To my knowledge so far, there was no other way of me getting his attention. He responded in kind with a "hey" and then blasted off into the universe forever gone .-. The next one I found in Altair system in a port riding a Cobra with about 2% left of his ship intact. We talked and it felt like I asked too many questions. But I am new... ofcourse I'll have queestions. The one thing I learned from him after joining him as a wing man, was how to use conflict zones to make money for combat bonds. I will be looking into that a little more today. Hope to see any of you out there! Fly safe Comanders.
Day 4
So I hit the 1,000,000 in currency (in the game obviously; if it was in real life.... my ghawd). I am still on my old trustworthy Adder (thinking of naming my shi; all good ships have a name). Todat is my day off from work and I haven't been able to go back to any other game. In some ways,l I am thankful I didn't buy The Witcher 3 right away. There would be confilct in me having to choose between both. Alas the smuggling continues and really pays off. I read that back in Alpha that it took almost 4 weeks to make that much. Also, there is a question that needs to be asked: Is there something wrong with me when games come before sex? lol This has been discussed with some friends and they are divided on the matter. Still haven't ran into anyo…
Day 3
I have become a notorious smuggler. I got better guns, larger cargo, still flying the Adder, better engines better everything. Will upgrade to better ship soon. Just need to read and find out which is the best one. I gguess it will depend on what I'll want to be: A Smuggler/Trader or a Bounty Hunter/Bounty Hunted. I'll keep making money for now. Still haven't found a soul (cmdr player) through out my travels. Seems XBOX ONE players aren't buying the game just yet, or I might be on a low populated server. Time flys when you fly Commanders.
Day 2
Okay, so I finally made time to sleep a good 8 hours, and went to work. I missed a friends wedding because of work by the way, but I have returned. I finally found my way to the Sol system, but... I now need a permit. So I read that to get the permit, I will need to recieve an invitation from The Federation; to do that, I'll need to be a friendly to The Federation (sounds a little like Star Wars lol). I've upgraded to an Adder and now made a few upgrades to my jump range (which is how I got to the system of Wolf 359). I'm going to be trying to do missions for The Federation to get back to Earth. I know, I know... why go there when there's a whole universe out there. Also I stop randomny to some signals when I am on Cruise Mode, and I have …
Russian interwiki now linked!
We recently got our interwiki link approved between the English and Russian version of the site! This helps out the Russian people who use Google Translate on our wiki to get what they want, but now that we have a Russian sister site, we urge you to go over there and flesh it out in Russian.
Having different langauges can help out people who does not speak English very well, it is something we want you to create and manage.
We have already interlinked the Ships available in the game, and Russian people are free to interlink the other articles!
E3 2015 Community Q&A - What does the future hold for Elite Dangerous
Hello Elite Dangerous fans! Wikia may have an exciting opportunity at E3 2015 to visit with the developers of Elite Dangerous. What does the future hold for Elite Dangerous? What do you want to know from the creators? Let us know for an upcoming Community Q&A!
Leave any and all questions you have for the Elite Dangerous team in the comments below. We plan to bring your questions to the developers and post their answers as soon as we can. While we can't promise to get every question answered, we will do our best to bring you information straight from the source.
Please use the comment section below and have your questions to us no later than 5pm PT on Sunday, June 14th.
Purschase locations
There's a `Purchase Locations` heading on every ship and module page, including the Shipyard page, that I don't think should be on the Wikia. My reasoning behind it is that it's better to provide information on where it's more likely to find these ships, modules, etc than what some systems and stations have. And I don't think the Wikia is a place to see all the locations for it, if so I think it's better to provide some systems that are scattered throughout the populated space.
As of right now there isn't an app that lists a station's ships and modules, which is most likely due to them not being completely static and that most people don't need them. As soon as there is a decent app that gives you possible ship and module locations then we'll…
GalNet news website currently broken
The GalNet News website has been updated and isn't working correctly. There has also been changes to how links works and all references now point to none-existant articles. But these shouldn't be changed, or cannot be changed, until Frontier fixes this.
Third Party Tools
Edit: I've gone ahead and implemented this on the Third Party Tools page.
To my understanding this wiki is dedicated to documenting the base game (Elite: Dangerous) and expansions on the game. There are already wikis for the previous games and lore (such as this one) so I don't see the need to document that information here. In the same vein 3rd party tools have their own websites and as such will have all of their information outlined and updated there. Does anyone really want that information documented here (as another thing to keep updated) or would it be okay if I move pages like the 2D Galaxy Map and Commodities Market Prices to a singular page that will only link to their main page?
An example of what I'm talking about can be found…
Infoboxes
Hello everyone and thanks for visiting the wiki!
To help standardize a lot of the pages and help condense the code I've made some infoboxes. Currently there are six and in this blog I'm going to try to very briefly go over each one. To add an infobox to a page just copy the code listed on the infobox's template page into the page's source code and then fill in the fields.
Note that all of the infoboxes automatically add pages to their corresponding category.
Thanks for reading this blog and if there are any questions please feel free to message me or leave a comment.

A Plea for Help
To the brave Commanders out there,
I have recently taken it upon myself to attempt to flesh out the wiki on this amazing game. So far, I have used my prior knowledge, information directly out of the game, and what details I could scrape from the recesses of the Internet. However, my task would be made much easier if I could get information from the fanbase or, even better, the creators themselves. The kind of information that would help the best would be lore, information on various items throughout the game, and screenshots (preferably of astronomical data, Commodity Market values in different star systems, planetary and stellar bodies, etc.). I cannot undertake this task alone, and so I ask of the Elite community, and its creators, for th…
