Cargo canisters on a planet
Cargo Canisters are used to transport different goods across the galaxy. A filled canister weighs approximately 1 tonne. All Commodities transported in the Cargo Racks of Ships and SRVs do so in canisters.
Various other objects, such as Black Boxes, Occupied Escape Pods, and Unknown Artefacts conform to the canister form factor closely enough to be compatible with standard cargo racks.
You can salvage canisters with a cargo scoop or limpet collectors in space or on a celestial body's surface. Check the GUI text when targeting canisters whether it's "legal salvage" or "illegal salvage". These can be points of interest on the surface of planets and moons.
Appearance
Each cargo canister is shaped like a rounded octagonal prism and is about the size of a full-grown human. There are various different cannister designs, used by different types of commodities.
There are several markings on the canisters, one showing the manufacturer, Vespine Transport Systems and other miscellaneous information that vary depending on the canister type and content.

Cargo containers contain multiple canisters. One metric tonne cargo cannisters are utilized to contain freight. This standardized system has made loading and unloading more efficient and easier.
