Background
In 1984 a video game named Elite, written by David Braben and Ian Bell, was released to the public. It quickly became one of the most successful and influential space simulator games of all time.

In 1993 Frontier: Elite II, a sequel to the original Elite game was published by Gametek, and allowed David to establish Frontier Developments in 1994. In 1995 Frontier Developments released Frontier: First Encounters, also known as "Elite III".

The Frontier titles are famous for their 1:1 scale, dynamic star systems, realistic physics and seamless freeform landings.

After a period of developing other games, Frontier announced their plans to create another sequel to Elite. In 2012 they began a crowdfunding project for Elite Dangerous. After a period of Alpha and Beta testing which was open to backers Elite Dangerous was released on December 16, 2014. It's the fourth game in the legendary Elite series. The second season of expansions Elite Dangerous: Horizons was released on PC on December 15, 2015. It's also available on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and Mac. Elite Dangerous: Beyond is the third season of major updates scheduled for 2018.
