Hatch Breaker limpets are a type of [[Limpet Controller|limpet]] that can be used to force a vessel to safely jettison cargo. The cargo can then be collected.
To use make sure that the module is equipped and bound to a fire group. Take down the target's shields, maneuver close to the target's cargo hatch, shoot the Hatch Breaker and hope that it attached to the target's ship. If it is successful then cargo should spill out of the target's cargo hold. The two things that can render a limpet useless are shields and point defense. Because of the relatively slow movement speed compared to missiles it can be shot down easy by players and point defense turrets.

HatchBreakerLimpetController Ingame

Control unit that can program a blank limpet to hack an unshielded target's hold, causing cargo ejection.

— In-Game Description

Hatch Breaker limpets are a type of limpet that can be used to force a vessel to safely jettison cargo. The cargo can then be collected.

They travel at 300 m/s and ignore shields. They can only be stopped by Point Defences or Electronic Countermeasure.[1]

To use, make sure that the module is equipped and bound to a fire group. Select your target, move into range (as defined by the relevant limpet class and rating), and then shoot the Hatch Breaker - it will attach itself to the target ship. If successful, cargo should spill out of the target's cargo hold after the appropriate Hack Time.

Engineer Modifications

The following modifications can be applied to this module by Engineers to enhance it's abilities:

Notes

  • Limpets are stored in the ship's cargo hold, and need to be manually restocked under the Restock/Repair menu at Star Ports.
  • Be careful when your target jettisons its cargo - cargo canisters are fragile and will be destroyed if you hit them too fast.
  • Targeting and disabling the ship's 'Drive' or 'Power Plant' sub-system is an effective way to prevent it from activating it's FSD without destroying the ship itself.
