So as to the talk page : Yes, state should probably be removed. It was originally added in when I wasn't sure what State was exactly, but since we know that it changes quite often it is probably better to have it removed.
As to the Economy section: I've removed this section because it does not belong in the SystemInfobox. A system does not have one designated economy thus it should not be displayed here. Instead this information should be placed in the StationInfobox (there is already a field) and/or next to the particular station in the System Layout section of the System page. The reason being is that many systems have multiple stations and thus multiple economy types so it should not be listed directly in the infobox which should be reserved for information that pertains directly and only to the article and it's default information (non modified). This is also why in the ShipInfoboxes there is no information pertaining to modified or upgraded equipment - all of that should be in a separate table or section as it can change quite often (for example when module stats are changed or if someone finds a better way to improve a stat, etc.).
I disagree on the economy section. This is information displayed even in the galaxy map when selecting a system. I fail to see how this is not system information. See attached screenshot. There is even an option to "Filter systems by economy". It has nothing to do with multiple station, either, since single stations can have multiple economies.
I understand what you're saying, but the way I'm understanding the info section of the Galaxy Map is it's giving an overview of important information present in the system - not details on the system itself (which is found once you go into the System Map and select empty space). The reason I say that is because Star Type is listed there along with the star's location (Gliese, HIPP) which is directly relevant to the Star and not the System (although it's still useful information and could be listed next to the Star in the System Layout section of the System page).
The problem I see with listing Economy in the SystemInfobox is that players will probably assume that all stations in that system will be that Economy type which isn't true while listing it in the System Layout section next to the particular Station will make it more clear for all readers.
Edit: As to the filter - the filter shows color based upon the controlling station, not based on all stations or the System's economy (since a System doesn't have an economy type). It's a flawed mechanic because the controlling station can be one type while other stations in system can be another type - the filter won't show a System even though there may be a station that matches the Filter criteria if that station isn't the controlling station.
Edit 2: Proof of Economy filter not showing System if controlling station isn't matched :
It's uploaded to imgur because it's easier to upload multiple images and add captions.
If I failed to answer one of your questions or you have more concerns please leave a comment and I'll respond as soon as I can (was busy today so this response is coming a bit late). Thanks for helping out on the wiki :]
Hey saw [[Template_talk:CommodityInfobox?rcid=14161|your question]], but unfortunately I didn't quite understand. Could you explain what problems you're having with columns in the CommodityInfobox and I'll see if I can help.
Edit: Okay it looks like you're attempting to put 2 new input fields. I'll add this to the template for you.
Edit2: I've added a "Location" field. To use this just add the code below into the infobox code on the desired rare commodity page.
| location =
Please place the Station then System just as you would write your location normally. Like so :
Do not use this for regular commodities as doing so will make the infobox too big to be helpful. For regular commodities please create a Purchase Locations header2 and then make a table with possible locations.
It was not just adding two columns. I added code to check whether the commodity is rare and only then the columns would get rendered and hidden if not. It worked perfectly, but I could only style the columns as header cells (using !) because the pipe (|) is treated as a special character. Your solution works of course. But it is possibly too complicated for the majority of wiki contributors.
As for the list of rare commodities. I wanted to add the list first on the category page but then decided that this would not be the best place so I started a new page.
I do believe that having a table like this adds helpful information to many readers of this wiki, which just a list of pages under a category does not.
I would really like to keep this table. I know that the table would probably not be acceptable as per Wikipedia's standard. But this is not Wikipedia but a Wikia about a computer game with the target audience being the players of Elite:Dangerous.
But it is possibly too complicated for the majority of wiki contributors.
It's how all templates work - not much I can do to change that. Honestly I can't imagine that copying 1 line of code will be too difficult for editors.
The list doesn't contribute anything that the category doesn't though - I'm curious what the point of it is other than just another page that will need to be updated. If there are missing commodities then just create pages for the commodities, add information, the infoboxes will automatically add them to the categories, and the categories will automatically display everything.
Adding all the missing commodities will take time. The list however, is more or less complete and provides information about the commodities location (which is the most important bit) at first glance. The category page does not provide this.
