Manufactured by Faulcon deLacy, the Python Mk II is a redesign of an iconic vessel. Reimagined as a combat ship that sacrifices internal space for increased manoeuvrability, firepower and defensce. With six hardpoints, it can go head-to-head with larger ships, while its improved agility allows it to handle smaller vessels without having to rely on turret weapons. The redesigned hull offers superior management of overcharged Frame Shift Drives. The Python Mk II has been designed for medium-size landing pads.

— In-Game Description

The Python Mk II is a medium ship manufactured by Faulcon DeLacy. This multipurpose vessel is a redesign of its predecessor, the Python.

Overview

There are 2 variants: Standard and Stellar. The Stellar version is listed in the Pre-Built Ships section via the main menu. The Standard variant has nearly identical Outfitting as normal ships. The Stellar variant is equipped by default with four Multi-Cannons and two Pulse Lasers.

The Mk II can carry ten canisters or 10 tonnes at maximum capacity without upgrades. This is significantly less than the 82 tonne cargo capacity of the Mk I.

The Mk II has a higher default unladen jump range of 17.85 ly versus 8.23 ly. However, the upgraded FSD's jump range is worse at 18.41 ly versus 30.45 ly of the Mk I.

The Mk II has a superior hull with better handling due to the equipped 5C Frame Shift Drive (SCO). It also has a lower thermal load, slower fuel consumption, better acceleration and deceleration while overcharging. The Mk II costs 79 million credits versus 57 million for the Mk I.

The Mk II's 6 hardpoints make it more lethal in combat. It's suitable for Piracy, Bounty Hunting, Assassination missions and Xeno Hunting. It can tackle small ships better with its enhanced maneuverability.

Development

This is the first new ship that was added to ED in 6 years. Frontier announced in a Frontier Unlocked livestream that the Mk II will be added with a free update in 2024. Elite partners got early access on a test server on 1 May 2024.[1] This ship became available for early access for 16,250 ARX on 7 May 2024. 3 months later, the base-version was released for free for all players with enough credits on 7 Aug 2024.
