Self Destruct starts a 30 second countdown to destroy your ship. To activate it, you must not be in supercruise, go to the right side data display, the Functions tab, and scroll all the way down. There you will find the Self Destruct option. After selecting, it asks you to confirm or cancel self destruct.
Once self destruct has been activated, you will not be able to open the left- or right hand side displays. This means self destruct cannot be cancelled. The ship explodes in 30 seconds.
When a commander's ship receives catastrophic hull damage (breaks apart) or becomes incapable of supporting life, the commander automatically escapes via an ever-present, indestructible escape pod. The escape pod transports the commander back to the last station that they docked at.[1]
Your pilots insurance allows you to rebuy your old ship loadout at reduced cost or you can take a basic sidewinder for free.
