A Shield Cell Bank is a module that can be activated to quickly regenerate a ship's shields on the fly. It is useful in combat to mitigate shield damage, but does not regenerate collapsed shields.

Usage
Shield Cell Banks (SCB) are an equipable module that allow the player to quickly regenerate their ship's shields on the fly. Useful in combat when taking shield damage - just be sure not to let your shields collapse as this module does not repair collapsed shields. This module can be bound to a specific key (via the keybind options menu) so that it can be used quickly and does not need to be in a firegroup.

Multiple Shield Cell Banks can be installed in the same ship, and only one at a time will be activated even if multiple banks are installed. They draw a significant amount of power, however, so it can still be helpful to arrange multiple SCBs in a "cascade": have only a single Shield Cell Bank powered at any given time, power down the rest and turn on the next when the first SCB runs out of charges. For example, if three SCBs are installed, turn off two and use the first one until it runs out of charges, then power that one down and power up the next loaded module. Keep in mind that powering up an inactive SCB takes 25 seconds before the first shield cell is ready to be used.

If shields are on the verge of collapsing from attacks, it is advised to divert energy into the SYS capacitor in order to strengthen the shields prior to using a SCB charge as doing so can prevent shields from collapsing and wasting a charge as the result.
Multiple shield cell banks can be installed, but the current game mechanics fire all of them at the same time instead of one bank after the other. A workaround is to only have a single shield cell bank powered at any one time. For example, if you have 3 banks you turn 2 off and use the first one until it runs out of charges, then power that one down and power up the next loaded module. Keep in mind that powering up an inactive SCB takes 25 seconds before the first shield cell is ready to be used.

After using a Shield Cell Bank, it takes 5 seconds until it starts recharging shields. During the kick-in time, a significant amount of heat will be produced. If the shields go down before it actually kicks in, the charge will not work and shields will remain collapsed, so be sure to use it with the right timing.
Note: if your shields are low and you're under attack, it is advised to divert energy into the SYS capacitor in order to strengthen your shields prior to using a shield cell as doing so can prevent shields from collapsing and wasting a shield cell as the result.

If a Shield Cell Bank is fired without following it with a heatsink, the ship will overheat and its modules and hull will start taking damage until the temperature drops to a safe level. Be aware that using Shield Cell Banks will cause heat damage to a ship unless a Heatsink Launcher is used at the same time.
Functionality
After using a Shield Cell Bank, it takes 5 Seconds (Kick-In-Time) until it starts recharging your Shields. During the Kick-In-Time a significant amount of heat will be produced. If your Shields go down before it actually kicked in, the charge will not work, leaving you with stripped Shields. So make sure to use it with the right timing.

  +
The amount of heat generated depends on the following: ship heat capacity, power plant rating, heat level before the use of a charge (higher initial heat percentage increases the peak heat percentage that shield cell will send you to), and the number of charges used at a time.
Warnings and Safety Notes:
With release of the Horizons-Expansion, the amount of heat produced using SCB's has been raised dramatically. Therefore, be aware that using Shield Cell Banks will cause heat damage to your ship unless a Heat Sink Launcher is used at the same time. The amount of heat damage done is dependent on the following: Your ship type (some ships dissipate heat poorly even with A rated power plants), your power plant rating and class (the higher rating and class the better dissipation, which reduces the length of time overheated), your heat level before the use of a shield cell (higher initial heat level increases the peak heat level the shield cell will send you to), and the number of shield cells used at a time (having multiple shield cell banks fire at the same time will cumulatively increase the amount of heat generated).

Warning: Having multiple shield cell banks firing at the same time will very likely cause significant hull damage in addition to significant module damage if a heat sink launcher is not used. While using a single shield cell bank will do heat damage without a heat sink launcher, it will usually spike heat levels long enough to do noticeable module damage and little to no hull damage depending on ship type and power plant capabilities.

Munitions
Spent ammunition must be replenished once used. Any station that is equipped with a "Re-arm" service will be able to replenish ammunition. Once docked at the station, ammunition can be purchased from the Munitions menu in the Starport Services.

ShieldCellBank Ingame

Shield Cells are consumed to quickly repair an active shield. Once activated, a shield cell requires a warm up period before it will regenerate the shield. During this period the shield is vulnerable to further attack; if the shield collapses during the warm up period the shield cell will still be spent but will have no effect.

— In-Game Description

A Shield Cell Bank is a module that can be activated to quickly regenerate a ship's shields on the fly. It is useful in combat to mitigate shield damage, but does not regenerate collapsed shields.

Usage

After using a Shield Cell Bank, it takes 5 seconds until it starts recharging shields. During the kick-in time, a significant amount of heat will be produced. If the shields go down before it actually kicks in, the charge will not work and shields will remain collapsed, so be sure to use it with the right timing.

The amount of heat generated depends on the following: ship heat capacity, power plant rating,[1] heat level before the use of a charge (higher initial heat percentage increases the peak heat percentage that shield cell will send you to), and the number of charges used at a time.
