Hi Clockpuncher, I noticed you made a page about the Knowledge Base. I think it should describe that, but don't copy all the content from the game due to potential copyright issues. We could reference to the knowledge base when adding information to articles on this wiki.
I think the Knowledge Base would fall under fair use for the wiki's purposes, along with all the other stuff we include (GalNet reports, screenshots, module and ship descriptions and statistics, etc.). It's just another part of the game, and it would be convenient to be able to reference that info without having to boot the game up.
If Frontier doesn't want us to archive the KB entries on the wiki, it would be simple enough for us to remove them upon request.
But I wasn't planning on transcribing the KB entries today. Whenever I get around to doing so, I'll also take a look at Wikia policies and see if there's a relevant guideline for this issue. Several other game wikis seem to be fine with direct transcription of in-game texts, however, so unless Wikia expressly forbids the practice, I don't expect I would ruffle any feathers.
Fallout Wiki (both Wikia and Gamepedia versions) does, and Bethesda hasn't issued any takedown orders against them despite being notoriously litigious. They've got full transcripts of dialogue and in-game documents. I understand your caution, but there's precedent. Not sure how we could go about securing permission from Frontier anyway, in my experience developers don't care enough to respond to such requests. But I'll hit up SpyTec, he might have a line on this sort of thing since he's both a bureaucrat here and a moderator for the Elite Dangerous subreddit.
