With the release of Odyssey, there's been a lot of...hiccups. While I have thoughts regarding the release schedule of the expansion, that is not why I'm writing here today. No, today I'm going to explain a little bit about my goals for experiencing this expansion.
I had access to the Alpha, but I'd only joined in Phase 1 when you couldn't fly your own ships. I'd never had the chance to try the Dominator and Artemis suits until after the expansion dropped.
While combat is easy to get a grip on, exobiology was something different. I figured out the difficult way that there are many aspects to exobiology and gene sampling. It's more complex than it seems on the surface.
Sure, you DSS, get to the surface, and scan life...but I started all wrong.
The thing is, many people will do things the hard way by landing on the celestial body and then hoofing it or hopping in an SRV to search out the life. That's fine and a perfectly reasonable approach that I have no problems with. However, I've refined a method to get all scans of single specimen planets and get out in a manner of minutes.
Exobiology was interesting before, but with the possibility of turning this competitive akin to the AXI leaderboards or other activities, it piqued my interest quite nicely.
Planets can be scouted to meet goal criteria to set up somewhat controlled "games". Points and rewards can be decided by the event organizer. Some ideas I've had include speed running scans, "scavenger hunts" for a list of specific specimens, and high value "treasure hunting".
This is just the tip of the iceberg for what the future can hold for this seemingly zen activity.
Perhaps one day I could organize commanders together to start a player faction...maybe something like "Exobio Events Committee" with a Squadron to match. I'm horrible when expected to hold leadership positions due to the chaotic nature of my cerebral disruptions. However, my knowledge and creativity tend to make me a valued member of any group I take part in. Guess we'll see eventually.
Hoping for a bright future surrounding this amusing career option.
